Installing PCR for Outlook

PCR for Outlook (aka the Outlook Portal) is a Windows application which embeds PCRecruiter functionality into Microsoft Outlook, allowing recruiters to access their recruitment CRM/ATS content from within the Outlook interface. Using PCR in Outlook gives users synchronization features, faster workflows, and familiar communication tools, while reducing time spent switching between programs.

Preparation #

  • Download the installer from pcrecruiter.net/download/pcrportal.exe
  • Have your Portal license key handy, which will be provided to you by your PCRecruiter account representative.
  • Have your login URL and username/password handy

Some versions of Outlook have a user interface option that may need to be toggled if the Reading Pane is not opening properly:

Some versions of Outlook have a User Interface option that you will need to toggle if the reading pane is not opening properly.  Follow these steps to adjust the setting:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Choose Options from the File menu.
  3. In the General section, look under User Interface options. Switch the “When using multiple displays:” setting to Optimize for compatibility.
  4. Click OK
  5. Restart Outlook

Installation & Connection #

  1. If not already done, download the installer.
  2. Open the download file and follow the prompts to install.
  3. Once install has finished, open Outlook.
  4. Enter your Portal License number in the pop up
  5. Click Add Connection in second pop up
  6. Enter your PCR Database URL
  7. Click Go
  8. Enter User Name and password for PCR, and select appropriate database from drop down menu
  9. Click OK
  10. Choose whether to sync calendars and whether to write email activities
  11. Re-enter PCR password and check the box to remember the password
  12. Click Test Connection. If successful, click OK then click Save and Close.

Additional Settings #

Once the installation is complete and you can display a PCR page within Outlook, you may be prompted to run the Control loader. Click the checkbox and then Open so you are not prompted each time.

If you sync your PCRecruiter Schedule with your Outlook Calendar, you can receive alarms from both PCRecruiter and Outlook. Since Outlook will trigger an alarm for every appointment, you can disable the PCRecruiter alarms to avoid getting double-reminders for every appointment.

  1. Click Schedule on PCRecruiter’s main menu
  2. Make sure you are in the section that shows the multiple calendars, then click the Manage Calendars action icon at the top right.
  3. Uncheck the Show Alarms box
  4. Close the window
